Years Of Experience
Exposed at age 14 to a 1972 Fender Rhodes Piano by his jazz director, Bove sought to buy his own Rhodes. After buying a 1980 Rhodes Mark II-style piano and being intrigued by how they sounded so different, he was set on a path of discovery that led to the culmination of a lifetime body of work.
Hailing from Buffalo, New York, Bove found it difficult to locate a local Rhodes technician to service his piano. Having limited resources before the age of the internet, he disassembled and repaired his piano at age 15. He then began repairing keyboards for other musicians in Buffalo before moving to Los Angeles.
The sheer breadth of the Los Angeles music community thrust him into continuous, regular repair and restoration work. Bove began sharing his knowledge regularly on the www.fenderrhodes.com forum (now www.ep-forum.com), where he became the global leader in providing advice to the Fender Rhodes world community.
Wanting to continue building upon adoption of vintage instruments and Rhodes piano awareness, Bove began writing his initial concept for a Fender Rhodes Documentary in 2006. The documentary film and book came to life through interviews with legendary music artists and former Fender staff, who shared their life experiences with the Fender Rhodes piano. The goal was perfectly coined in his interview with Herbie Hancock: “Nothing sounds like a Rhodes.”
Bove continues to restore and rent vintage keyboards in Los Angeles, California. Harnessing a relentless pursuit of knowledge, his goal is to support today’s music artists by unlocking the evasive, true potential of vintage keyboard sounds.
